September Public Board Meeting Notice

The Commission will convene its September Public Board Meeting on Saturday, September 12, from 10 AM – 12 PM. Based on guidance from the Department of Health related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) response, the meeting will be held remotely via Zoom video conference call. A dial-in option will also be available for those who are unable to access the meeting electronically.

On July 27th, CAPAA partnered with APIC-WA to hold a statewide listening forum for the Asian community to share their experiences, concerns, and needs relating to social support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Information gathered was summarized with recommendations on what is needed to successfully move through this recovery period.

The City of Tacoma is seeking members of the Tacoma community willing to serve as Community Representatives on the newly formed Independent Investigation Team (IIT) on behalf of the Tacoma Police Department.

This position will require the community representative to pass a department/agency background check and attend identified training that is relevant to officer involved deadly force incidents. The Non-Law Enforcement Community Representative must sign a binding confidentiality agreement at the beginning of each police use of deadly force incident investigation.

The length of commitment to this position is up to four (4) years; however, commitment duration may be adjusted based on the needs of the department/agency and the individual’s willingness to serve. The final decision regarding length of commitment will be decided by the Chief of Police.

The University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is conducting a study to increase our knowledge about aging with a physical disability. The purpose of this study is to see if a telephone based health and wellness program can help individuals with long-term physical disability.

They are seeking participants who:

• Are ages 45-64
• Have been diagnosed with any medical condition (such as Muscular Dystrophy, Amputation, Spinal Cord Injury, CMT, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.) that impacts daily living/quality of life.
• Experienced symptoms before age 40
• Participation in this research would involve talking on the phone with a wellness coach approximately once a month for 6 months or continuing your normal care with no phone calls. All participants will fill out 4 surveys over the course of 1 year that will take approximately 60 minutes each.

Participants will be compensated for their time and effort.
